A Disturbing Start

The AP has a story today, Obama to use executive orders to make immediate impact. It says, "President-elect Obama plans to use his executive powers to make an immediate impact when he takes office, perhaps reversing Bush administration policies on stem cell research and domestic drilling for oil and natural gas."

I have two reactions to this:

1. Unfortunately, it looks like Obama will govern from the left. Believe it or not, I was hoping that he wouldn't. One of Bill Clinton's first moves as President was to champion gays in the military. Through that act, he no longer looked like the centrist he campaigned as, but as a radical leftist. And the Republicans took control of the Congress two years later. Mike Huckabee said last night that he thought Obama would learn from Clinton's mistake and govern as a centrist, but it looks like that may not happen, considering Obama is prioritizing the pro-abortion agenda.

2. Obama wants to overturn Bush's executive order on drilling? I thought he said in his campaign that he supported drilling, and that McCain was distorting his record by claiming otherwise. Unless Obama wants to ban drilling only for certain areas, this is a massive flip-flop. It's like a candidate pledging to receive federal campaign money, only to change his mind. (Wait a second!) What's next? Will taxes go up on the middle class?
