Obama's Address to Schoolchildren

Tomorrow, President Obama will address America's schoolchildren. Conservatives fear that he will indoctrinate them with his socialist agenda, while supporters of the President maintain that he just wants to encourage them to do well in school.

I have no objection to the President giving America's schoolchildren a motivational speech. I doubt he'll say anything that will poison their minds. As someone said last Sunday on ABC's This Week, the kids who won't see it because their parents are keeping them at home can easily watch it on You-Tube. Actually, he said they'll want to see it, since their parents are forbidding them to do so!

I have problems, however, with teachers leading kids in a discussion about how they can support the President, or making them write essays or letters. Even George Stephanopoulos said that the White House opened itself up to criticism through this White House curriculum. Students should not have to write about how they support the President because not all of them do support him! That's like those liberal teachers who made their students write letters to Congress against the Iraq War. And, yes, I'd have problems forcing students to support conservatism as well.

I'm not sure if the White House is going forward with this curriculum, since news changes by the minute. If you want to tell me the latest, fine. But I'm not going to get into a debate here. I just wanted to express my opinion.
